This 48 page love letter to the novel is a minor work by a major talent. In this graphic novella, the ghost of the most famous man-made creature takes Mary Wollestonecraft Godwin on a tour of creation telling her of the intersections of lightning and corpses. They tour her own birth and his and walk through the scenes like wraiths, unable to do much beside comment on what they see. While the Frankenstein novel asks moral and ethical questions that still echo in modern science, this is an attempt to place the creation of that story in some larger framework.

While the art by Marek Oleksicki is beautifully gruesome, the story is so light and free of drama or conflict it feels as insubstantial as the lead characters. One may pick up this book at some time in the future and decide to give it a read only to realize that one had already read it, but Frankenstein’s Womb did not make much of a lasting impression.
