This gloriously stupid B-movie was a delight with its hopped up colors, wacky plot mechanics and super-charged rush of sex and violence. Jason Statham plays professional hitman Chev Chelios who wakes up to find that he had been poisoned. He discovers this by watching a DVD where he sees himself shot up with a cocktail of drugs that will kill him if he does not counteract them with adrenaline. So, weaving between woozy and comatose he leaves his house to find the guys that killed him. And then things start blowing up.
Things get punched, shot, crashed and humped as Chev struggles to keep his rush going to keep his heart going including one surreal moment where a hospital gown-wearing Statham is standing on a stolen police bike as it rolls down the street. Amy Smart shows up as his delightfully dopey girlfriend and Dwight Yoakam in his balding glory plays Chev’s deadpan doctor. Throw in a tune by Quiet Riot and one by Loverboy and you have an entertaining flashy stupid movie. Or as I call it, the perfect antidote to politics.
