Strange Heroes was done in the tradition of the old Tales of Suspense format with two different and shorter chapters featured in one comic book. In the Otherland stories, Mary Aravelo struggles to survive in a hostile world with the help of a native called Tanakura. In the Spellbinder chapters, young Tommy Bowen begins to learn the art of becoming a Combat Sorcerer. So each book had an urban fantasy chapter and a lost world adventure chapter written by Bill Willingham.
